starting point

I went through a rash of changing jobs for a while there. Left a job of 16 months of model making drudgery in April. From there to a sustainable wood products seller. Managed the making mostly of butcher block counter tops but I eventually realized my boss was opposite of a micro manager...so I went freelance and worked for a couple different contractor friends doing some cabinet work and finish carpentry. That lasted for about 2 months. Good variety of work and schedule. One project had me at the coast for 3-4 day stretches of 12 hour days and sleeping in a bunk bed at night. There was a monastic quality to the single focus of remodeling this house in a small town-what else is there to do.

Then an offer came from something I applied for while disgruntled counter top makin'. I'm back in academia managing the shop for the industrial design program at a local art and design college. Might be teaching a class or two in the near future. The management of the school is sprinkled with a bit of benevolent corporate over site and aggressive recruiting...but steady benefits, freedom to use the shop(gotta get crackin') and tarnish some young minds.

This blog will serve as an outlet to share thoughts about teaching, to post new work and maybe previous projects.
